hTis is an interesting piece. It is a small ambrotype ni a very nice case. It is of 3 young men sitting and smiling, 2 men with hats with their hands folded in front of them and then a third man sitting in between them. They are all kind of smirking at teh camera. It was purchased from a virginia estate from a family that has been in virginia for a long time.
It comes with 2 handwritten notes from the 1800s. One describes another photo, that talks about the family it came from which was, rufus payne and mary harman. The second describes the photo adn states, the right hand chap was a lad mary was interested in. He appears several times and am only said-oh some soldiers i knew. So i believe all 3 are civil war soldiers. The image itself is absolutely fantastic and has great ihstory with it. A really niec piece in excellent condition.
