Original 19Th Century Us European Import Infantry Sword19th century sword import sword i have done a lot of research on this one and i have found that the blade looks like a infantry officer blade and the handel looks somewhat like a dragoon sword. I have shown this to a number of collectors adn the consensus is that it is an original early 1800s up to the civil war period item. Probably of european origin. Any information on thsi will be appreciated, except from know-it-alls that just want to inform me i don't know what i'm talking about. We all know the type the blade measures 34 1/8 inches long.
The base of the blade is thick and heavy duty, it measures 1 1/8 inch x 5/16 inch. Overall length of the sword is 39 inches. The scabbard measures 35 inches long. The blade has engraving no both sides and the top. It has a gradual tapre all the way down its length.
The blade is in good condition. There are some sparpening maks and some very lgiht surface rust in a few spots. I have not cleaned or traeted this blade.
I just gave it very light treatment of oil. The handle and guard are made frmo brass. The grip is wood coverde leather. The back of the handle has some whtie paint on it where it rubbed against a wall. There are no manufacturers markings anywhere on this. I have been told this was the case with many european swords that were sold on the world market so their origin could not be discovered.
